Lot 18
c. 1976 Kawasaki 903cc KZ900
Registration no. KUH 120P
Frame no. Z1F - 095801
Engine no. Z1E 100126
Introduced at the Cologne show in 1972, the Kawasaki Z1 was the firm's riposte to Honda's 750-4. A very different concept, the 'Zed' was a super-bike before the word was coined, with a mighty power output of close to 115bhp, bullet-proof mechanics which became legendary, and, with little modification, race-capable handling and brakes. The original was developed into the KZ model series, all with the same power levels but with much improved handling and more tractability while retaining the brilliant aspects of the original.
The private vendor acquired this Kawasaki from Wales via an online auction platform in 2006; his intention was to restore it to concours condition after his retirement, only for ill heath to scupper the project. We are advised by the vendor that the frame and wheels have been resprayed, and new shock absorbers and a few other items fitted.
The Kawasaki is offered from the owner's private collection, all of which were ridden for no more than 2 miles following acquisition and then stored in the garage. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require re-commissioning and/ or restoration to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed (the engine turns over). The odometer reading is 26, 026 miles (at time of cataloguing/ photography).
Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's history, originality, authenticity, mechanical condition and completeness (or otherwise) prior to bidding. It should be noted that the HPI database records the previous colour as Red. A selection of spares is offered with the machine to include mirrors, control cables and new inner tubes. Accompanying documents include the auction payment summary; a V5C Registration Certificate (still in the previous owner's name); a quantity of expired MoTs; and two instruction/ maintenance manuals.
£4, 000 - 5, 000
All lots are sold ‘as is/ where is’ and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
