Introduced in 1956, the Venom sports roadster was derived from the touring MSS. The latter had disappeared from the range in 1948, reappearing in 1954 with a new swinging-arm frame and telescopic fork. The engine too was updated, changing to 'square' bore and stroke dimensions of 86x86mm, which permitted higher revs and potentially greater power, as well as gaining an alloy cylinder barrel and 'head.
Eingeführt 1956, lehnte sich die Venom-Sport-Roadster an das Touren-MSS an. Letztere verschwand 1948 aus dem Programm und tauchte 1954 mit einem neuen Schwingarmrahmen und einer Teleskopgabel wieder auf. Der Motor wurde ebenfalls aktualisiert und erhielt eine quadratische Bohrung/ Hub-Dimension von 86×86 mm, was höhere Drehzahlen und potenziell mehr Leistung ermöglichte, sowie einen aus Aluminium gefertigten Zylinderlauf und Kopf.
In the autumn of 1955 engine development pursued as part of the scrambles programme bore fruit in the shape of the high-performance Venom and its 350cc sibling, the Viper, which were launched at that year's Motorcycle Show. The MSS frame and forks were retained for the newcomers, while full-width alloy hubs were adopted to boost braking power, and smart chromed mudguards fitted to enhance the models' sporting image. Produced until the end of Velocette production in 1971, the Venom represents the final glorious flowering of the traditional British sports single. Today these supremely well-engineered thoroughbreds are highly sought after.
Im Herbst 1955 zahlte sich die Motorenentwicklung im Rahmen des Scrambles-Programms aus und mündete in die leistungsstarke Venom und ihren 350cc-Geschwister, den Viper, die auf dem Motorradsalon dieses Jahres vorgestellt wurden. Das MSS-Rahmen- und Gabelsystem blieb bei den Neuankömmlingen erhalten, während volle Aluminium-Drehkolben zu einer Bremskraftsteigerung führten und schicke verchromte Schutzbleche die sportliche Ausstrahlung der Modelle unterstrichen. Hergestellt bis zum Produktionsende von Velocette im Jahr 1971 steht der Venom für die letzte glorreiche Blüte des traditionellen britischen Sport-Einzylinders. Heute gehören diese überragend gut konstruierten Vollblüter zu den stark gefragten Klassikern.
The late private owner purchased this Venom in 1994 from a close friend who had restored it but other than that no history is known. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed (the engine turns over with compression), we're advised by the late vendors family it was running when it was stored around 10 years ago. It should be noted that both the V5C and HPI record the engine number as 'VH2859' (a clerical error) and the RF60 logbook states a frame change occurred in 1965.
Der verstorbene Vorbesitzer erwarb diese Venom 1994 von einem engen Freund, der sie restauriert hatte; abgesehen davon ist keine weitere Historie bekannt. Nach einer Inaktivitätsphase wird dieses Motorrad vor der Rückkehr auf die Straße wieder in Gang gesetzt werden müssen, daher wird es ausdrücklich so wie gesehen verkauft (der Motor dreht sich mit Kompression). Die Familie des späten Verkäufers teilte mit, dass es zuletzt vor ca. 10 Jahren bei der Lagerung lief. Es sei darauf hingewiesen, dass sowohl V5C als auch HPI die Motornummer als 'VH2859' verzeichnen (ein bürokratischer Fehler) und das RF60-Frachtbuch eine Rahmänderung im Jahr 1965 angibt.
