This exceptional Land Rover Series I 80-inch distinguishes itself not only by its unique history and rarity, but above all by the exceptional quality of the restoration carried out.
It concerns a left-hand drive Land Rover of Belgian origin that was delivered as a CKD kit to the Belgian firm. Minerva and was subsequently built up for the Belgian GendarmerieOnly 149 examples of this version were built at the time, of which reportedly only three still exist.
The car has undergone a years-long, very thorough restoration by a specialized Dutch Land Rover restorer, in which no expense was spared. Naturally, everything has been extensively documented with photos. The restoration was carried out with the aim of returning the car to the original condition in which it was delivered in 1951. In doing so, the Land Rover was completely disassembled and overhauled down to the last detail. The bodywork was fitted with new sheet metal where necessary, all aluminium parts were professionally sandblasted, and numerous components were re-galvanized. The steel chassis was also carefully repaired, partially renewed, and subsequently finished to a high standard.
After the restoration, the car was built using a combination of new and expertly reconditioned parts. The paintwork, chrome, and finish are of an exceptionally high standard, giving the car an appearance befitting a top-quality restoration. The interior has been completely renewed, while the dashboard and instrument panel have been restored with an eye for originality. The complete soft top, lighting, and various details have also been renewed or brought to like-new condition.
Technically, the Land Rover is also in excellent condition. The engine, drivetrain, braking system, and electrical installation have been overhauled or renewed, and an electronic ignition was chosen to further enhance reliability and user-friendliness. Since the completion of the restoration in 2019, the car has driven only approximately 300 kilometers, meaning the vehicle is effectively still in concours-worthy condition.
The presence of original accessories such as the heater, tow bar, hand throttle, battery disconnect switch, and the metal jerrycan holder with accompanying jerrycan underscores the authentic character of this special Series I.
