160cc Overhead Cam single
A bike rarely seen in the UK
Ideal no reserve project

Moto Guzzi was established in 1921 by three friends from the Italian Air Corps and is Europes oldest motorcycle manufacturer in continuous production, based in the same factory in Mandello del Lario overlooking Lake Como ever since. Always innovative they were very successful in Grand Prix racing with products as diverse as the 350cc horizontal single that won five world championships in a row to the incredible 500c V8. Whilst the British manufacturers were producing bigger and bigger engined bikes, there was always a good demand for smaller capacity models in Italy. By the 1950s, Moto Guzzi’s model range encompassed models such as the Stornello, the Airone and the Lodola to satisfy this need. First seen at the Milan Fair in December 1959, Stornello sales began in 1960. It was designed to be an economical, easy to maintain bike with an affordable purchase price, and as a 125cc could be ridden by sixteen-year-olds. In 1968, a 160cc version was introduced, allowing it to be used on Italian motorways.
This 1968 160cc Stornello, being offered at no reserve, has been part of a small private collection of Italian bikes. Presented in essentially original and standard trim it appears to be all there and fairly solid. Obviously needing a complete overhaul, it will make an interesting first restoration project and an unusual model to take on vintage runs and rallies. Owned by the vendor for a number of years, it is not registered but will be supplied with a copy of an Italian ‘Automobile Club d’Italia’ registration document.
