Bodywork / Exterior:
The model shown here is a 2003 500 SL coupé/ cabriolet in its original “Blau Metallic 189” colour.
The body paint is in immaculate condition, with a uniform shade and excellent gloss.
After a professional orbital polish carried out by our workshop, we noted some corrected paint chips along the edge of the driver’s door.
The bumpers are in excellent condition, with no evidence of impact or distortion—particularly thanks to the front + rear parking assist option.
The retractable hard top works perfectly; it completes its cycle within the original 16-second time.
The same applies to the electrically deployable safety roll bar.
This example is fitted with the original wind-noise reduction net, significantly improving comfort with the roof down.
The 17-inch AMG alloy wheels show no signs of impact or distortion.
We did find a few areas of lacquer imperfections around the edges.
The YOKOHAMA Advan sport tyres show 10% wear at the front and at the rear.
This car is equipped with its original “space saver” spare wheel and compressor.
Among the interesting options and exterior equipment on this model, we noted:
17” AMG alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, wind deflector net and automatic headlight activation.
Cabin:
The full leather interior in its “Grau” colour has kept its strict original configuration and presents in excellent condition.
We noted a small scuff on the driver’s seat cushion.
The electrically adjustable heated and ventilated leather upholstery with position memory is working perfectly and remains in good condition.
The dashboard and its cover are in excellent condition.
All instruments in the cockpit are working perfectly, as are the comfort features.
The CD radio and the BOSE speakers are working perfectly.
The GPS is not functional.
The wood inserts show no fading, cracking or scratches. The plastics show no deformation.
The door cards are in excellent condition, with no signs of wear or fading, as well as the original carpets, protected by bespoke MERCEDES-BENZ overmats.
We noted marks on the left rear carpet.
The side cubby pockets in the door panels and the rear stowage compartments behind the seats are in good condition.
Among the interior options and equipment this car is fitted with, we noted:
Extended full leather cabin, “wood” trim, electrically adjustable leather seats with position memory, heated and ventilated seats, automatic dual-zone climate control, speed limiter, multi-function steering wheel, BOSE speakers, photo-sensitive electrochromic centre mirror, plus telephone pre-wiring.
Chassis:
Putting the car on the ramp confirms a sound body with no visible accident damage or any apparent structural corrosion.
We noted a small deformation at the lower section of the passenger sill.
The basics—floor pans, spare wheel well, longitudinals, lower sills and wheel arches—are in good condition.
Practical reserve: as a rule, we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond their good visual and functional condition verified during the road test and once the car was on the ramp.
The adaptive (pilot-controlled) suspension is working perfectly.
During the dynamic test, we did not notice any abnormal extra noises from the body or running gear (ball joints, bushes, etc.).
The braking is well balanced, stable and strong, with no vibration or abnormal noises.
The front brake discs show 40% wear.
The front brake discs will be replaced prior to delivery.
The front brake pads show 20% wear.
The rear brake pads will be replaced prior to delivery.
The technical inspection carried out by our workshop prior to delivery will confirm correct operation of the whole system.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanicals are working perfectly.
The invoices show regular servicing, carried out mainly at MERCEDES centres and with brand specialists.
The V8 starts instantly, and the idle is stable—confirmed by the 360° video filmed with the engine running and available at the beginning of the slideshow.
Once up to temperature, the engine pulls normally with no overheating.
The 5-speed automatic gearbox engages gears without delay or harshness.
As is often the case with older engines, the engine/ gearbox sealing is only average.
