Description
A superb example of the one of the rarest and most sought after 105 series Alfa Romeos. The Sprint GT Veloce was the 'hot' model of its time being fitted with the 1600cc version of Alfa's legendary twin cam 4 cylinder engine. Just 1407 RHD examples were supplied world wide, and now being 60 odd years old finding a good one is no easy task.
'Our' GT Veloce started life in the warm, dry climate of Cyprus where the first owner kept and cherished her until 1985. Two more long term owners continued on this theme until she was purchased by Kevin Rawson of the now defunct, but previously well respected Alfa dealers Southwood Motor Company and imported into the UK in late 2014, before being registered in April 2015. Since arriving in the UK she has had 3 owners.
During her 11 years in the UK an extensive ongoing maintenance record has been carried carried out to keep her in the condition she presents today, receipts on file documenting just under £36, 000 of work, all carried out by reputed specialists the last 5 years of which exclusively by our sister company Alex Jupe Motorsport.
On arrival Southwood sent her to DTR Sports Cars for a major mechanical going over. This included the following work:
1. Cylinder head removed, skimmed and refitted with new head gasket.
2. Major service including all fluids and filters.
3. Steering box rebuild.
4. Brake servo replaced.
5. New heater valve.
6. New radiator.
7. Complete rebuild & rebush of front and rear suspension.
8. Eibach spring kit and Koni shock absorbers.
9. Prop shaft rebuild with new U. J., donut, centre mount and bearing.
10. New brake pads and hoses all around.
11. New headlights.
12. Hi-torque starter motor.
13. Re-cored heater matrix.
14. Cavity and clear underbody wax protection.
Following this work Southwood sold the car to her first UK owner. Fast forward a couple of years and a client of ours tasked us to inspect another Sprint GT Veloce he had found, sadly this car was substandard but at the same time Southwood had just taken this car back in and, following an inspection purchased. A copy of the inspection report is present in the history file.
The 2nd UK owner kept and enjoyed the car for the next 5 years, using her regularly through the summer months, then storing her in a dehumidified winter storage facility. During this ownership was serviced by his local classic car specialist. Requiring funds to complete the restoration of his Fiat Dino coupe I found a buyer for him with the current owner serial Alfa collector in 2021, who is only selling now due to having purchased a GTA.
He likes his cars 'spot on' as he only drives classics and likes them to work as they should. To that end extensive work has been carried in the last 5 years including:
1. Regular servicing.
2. Complete new correct spec clutch & clutch cable.
3. New brake servo.
4. Rebuilt Dunlop front brake callipers.
5. New Dunlop rear brake cylinders.
6. New brake master cylinder.
7. New complete exhaust system.
8. Removal & restoration of dash.
9. Period correct radio restored with Bluetooth.
10. New column stalks.
11. Complete new wiring loom.
12. New speedo & rev counter cables.
13. New speakers.
14. New heater ducting.
15. All dash dials stripped and restored.
16. New alternator.
As can be seen no expense has been spared and she is 'on the key' and ready to use and enjoy.
She comes complete with a tailor fitted car cover and A4 ring binder full of paperwork including:
1. UK invoices for work.
2. UK MOT's.
3. Authentication of build from Alfa Romeo archives.
4. Assorted correspondence including between the last Cypriot owner and Southwood.
5. A copy of the original UK owners handbook and supplement update.
6. Instructions relating to the stereo.
7. Ownership information from Cyprus, including copies of ownership papers and import papers to the UK.
Although exempt she will be supplied serviced and with 12 months MOT for the new owners piece of mind.
A rare chance to own revered piece of Alfa's history in excellent ready to use condition, or to turn into a GTA replica without the expense of carrying out a restoration on a project car.
