Description
Motodrome offer this very nice 1978 Mercedes 350SL Convertible (R107) finished in Red with black mohair hood and cream trim.
Also equipped with hard top.
This one is a rare 4 speed manual transmission version (apparently around 12% were thus fitted), which gives far more driver involvement compared to the usual auto box.
It’s fitted with full cream leather trim, the rare rear seat option, and electric windows. Also fitted with rear seat belts and Blaupunkt Brighton stereo with electric aerial.
This one has excellent provenance, having had just one private owner since 2006.
We’re told it was first registered in Ireland, before coming to the UK and being registered her in 1987.
It comes with a very fat history file back to 1998, and seems to have been restored at least twice since then, according to the history.
In 1998 it seems to have undergone significant body restoration using genuine Mercedes panels, and is recorded as having had a colour change from Silver to Red in 1999.
There are bills for an engine top-end rebuild inc new timing chains in 2003 at 109K.
History from the last owner (since 2006) are even more comprehensive and include
A full engine rebuild in 2013 at 140718m
A full cosmetic body restoration and repaint in 2014
New black mohair hood 2015

There’s no more stylish way to travel than in an R107 – they are the quintessential classic Mercedes, and this one both presents very well, and drives as a well-maintained one should. .
On our own website, you’ll find our usual two videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, both of this particular example, which form part of the description.
