The 1958 Plymouth Plaza, presented in a stunning Viper red with a white roof, is powered by a 230 ci inline-six paired to a three-speed manual transmission. This version was originally equipped with a single-barrel carburettor and delivered 132 bhp and 205 lb-ft of torque when new. The car is very solid, with original floor pans, body and quarters/ fenders, and it was restored in 2008 with fresh paint and new seats, plus added moulding-style wing mirrors. The vehicle was bought in 2015 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where it was originally purchased new and stored in a barn on an estate for many years. The Plymouth Plaza began life in its original “Metallic Suede” colour and was painted Viper red and Ford white on the roof. Since being owned from 2015, the vehicle has attended four wedding ceremonies, where it was photographed successfully and brought the couple to the reception. The Plymouth Plaza has also been featured in local newspaper articles in Melbourne, Florida. Over the years, many have praised the car for its close likeness to the vehicle from John Carpenter’s film “Christine”, based on Stephen King’s novel “Christine”. Although the vehicle isn’t an exact “Christine” model like the ones used in the film—which were “Belvedere” hardtops—the car presents extremely well and has visited a famous location from “Christine” in Pasadena, California, “Arnie’s House”.
The car runs and drives well, but may require a clean-up with the points and time setting. There are a few rust bubbles on the rear section of the right front wheel arch. Some items are not present on the car, such as the side fender turn signals (originally fitted), the front “V” emblem (originally fitted), and a radio ** (original push-button/ eraser panel installed).
Since I acquired it, the car has always been maintained in garages in Virginia, California and Florida. The Plymouth Plaza is now offered for sale in Melbourne, Florida, with maintenance documents and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.
