Introduced by Ford in 1951 the Ford Consul marked the beginning of an entirely new generation of post-war motoring. Unveiled alongside the larger Zephyr at the London Motor Show, the Consul was notable for being one of the first British production cars to feature a modern unitary (monocoque) body construction, replacing the traditional separate chassis design. It also introduced independent front suspension with MacPherson struts, providing improved handling and ride comfort that helped set new standards in its class.
