D40 VPK is a time capsule example of a Mercedes-Benz 300SL, bearing a very modest 24, 000 miles on the odometer from new. This R107 was first registered on the 1st August 1986 and supplied new by Puttocks Ltd in Guildford, Surrey with ABS, electric mirrors, and additional rear seats. It was built the same year as Mrs. Abbey Clancy was born which made it a very fitting 30th birthday present from her husband, one of the most recognizable English Footballers Mr Peter Crouch. The couple enjoyed the Merc sparingly by for a number of years keeping it in the garage and carefully looking after the car.
Accompanying the car is a comprehensive history file detailing thorough maintenance and original service book. The supplying dealer serviced the SL at 669 and 1497 miles before Malaya Gatwick in Crawley stamped the book 1609, 2723 and 7610 miles. The book confirms the cars early history, and more recently, since 2015 the car has been looked after by the SL Shop with stamps at 21711, 22334, 22495 and 22635 miles. The cars most recent owner has had the SL serviced near home on the Isle of Man with services at 23164, 23586 and 23656 miles. Along with the tremendous service records, many invoices for repair maintenance have been kept alongside MOT records dating back to its first one in 1989 when three years old warranting the super low mileage.
Looking around this car, it is clear to see how carefully it has been stored and maintained, the Nautical Blue Metallic (929) paintwork holds a beautiful finish along with the matching hardtop. Removing the hood reveals a Dark Blue fabric soft top in excellent condition along with the Grey Leather (278) interior. The performance of the car on the road is in keeping with the aesthetic condition, it starts up and drives exactly as you would expect it from the factory.
