Description

Few cars have achieved the legendary status of the Porsche 930 Turbo. Introduced as Porsche’s flagship model and the fastest production car to leave Stuttgart at the time, the 930 combined explosive turbocharged performance with unmistakable styling and has since become one of the most sought after classic sports cars ever built. The 3. 3-litre Turbo represented the ultimate expression of Porsche's air cooled engineering in period, delivering 300 bhp through its famous turbocharged flat six and earning the nickname "Widowmaker" among enthusiasts due to its thrilling and uncompromising character. This particular example is exceptionally interesting, as it was produced in October 1979 as a 1980 model year car and supplied new to the European market. More importantly, it retains its highly desirable Matching Numbers status, meaning that the original engine, gearbox and chassis remain together today. According to the available Porsche documentation, the car has benefited from extensive long term ownership, careful preservation, documented restoration work and a fascinating international history. About this 930 Turbo According to the Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, this car was built in October 1979 as a 1980 model and delivered new with European specifications. Shortly after delivery it was exported to Texas, USA, where it became part of a private collection. The original service book indicates that its first recorded service in the United States was carried out in 1989, at which point the car had covered only a few hundred miles, suggesting extremely limited early use. During its time in America, the car was converted to comply with US regulations, receiving the characteristic impact bumpers while its original European components were removed but carefully preserved. The factory Fuchs wheels were replaced by period BBS split rims, another common period modification. The car later spent time in Colorado Springs before returning to Texas. In January 2001 it was purchased by a Danish owner living in Texas and subsequently imported back to Europe via Bremerhaven before being registered in Denmark in 2002. Remarkably, all original Euro-specification components accompanied the vehicle throughout this process. The previous Danish owner later carried out a cosmetic conversion inspired by the contemporary Porsche 964 generation, including revised bumpers and Porsche Cup wheels. Once again, all original parts were retained. When the current owner acquired the car in September 2009 with approximately 51, 000 km recorded, the vehicle was purchased together with its entire collection of original components. Exterior One of the highlights of this particular 930 is that it was returned to its original factory appearance in 2015 by Porsche Copenhagen. After years of carefully collecting the correct components, the owner undertook an extensive restoration programme returning the car to exactly the specification in which it left the factory in 1979. This included sourcing an original set of correct Fuchs wheels in the proper 8x16" and 9x16" configuration, personally collected in Baden-Baden, Germany, and fitted during the restoration process. The wheels alone represented a substantial investment and contribute significantly to the car's originality today. The restoration included replacement and refurbishment of numerous original body panels, trim pieces, seals, badges, spoilers, lighting components and exterior fittings. Porsche invoices from 2015 document an extensive reverse conversion back to Euro specification using original Porsche parts throughout. Today the car presents as a highly authentic European specification 930 Turbo, complete with the iconic flared arches, Fuchs alloys and the unmistakable intercooler rear spoiler that defined Porsche's supercar of the era. Interior The cabin has benefited from continuous maintenance during the current ownership. New front and rear seatbelts, a replacement blower motor and various interior improvements were carried out over the years. During the major restoration programme completed between 2019 and 2020, the parcel shelf was retrimmed and the front seats received new original Porsche leather upholstery in the correct perforated black leather specification. A replacement steering wheel was installed for improved driving comfort, while the original steering wheel has been retained and accompanies the car. The original steering wheel remains in excellent condition and forms part of the car's extensive collection of original components. A new original Porsche speedometer was installed during the 2019-2020 restoration programme. At the time of replacement, the original odometer displayed 85, 408 km, which is documented in the accompanying invoices. EnginePower comes from Porsche's legendary turbocharged 3. 3-litre air cooled flat six, producing approximately 300 bhp and delivering power through the traditional four speed manual gearbox. Equipped with the larger intercooler...
