The Land Rover Series III was a masterful facelift overseen by Range Rover designer David Bache of a product that continued to sell well across the world, despite increasingly tough opposition from a number of rivals, most notably Toyota. Series III improvements are easy to spot thanks to the headlamps being moved across to the front wings and an updated stylised plastic radiator grille. The updated and more safety conscious interior and all synchromesh gearbox acknowledged that the opposition was catching up, and the arrival of overdrive catered for those who needed their Land Rovers for serious on-road work.
Subject to a body off 6 year restoration this Marine Blue over Limestone Series lll is a credit to the vendor. A Richards 88″ replacement chassis was sourced complete with a bolt on gearbox cross member. The gearbox/ engine mounts were replaced, along with new shock absorber bushes, exhaust mounts as well as the all important bulkhead. Modern touches to improve day to day driving include the addition of Haystee power steering, Zeus Engineering front and rear disc brake conversion and for those cold mornings, an upgraded Spal blower, clutch and amp. The tasteful modifications continue inside with a pair of high-backed seats, Exmoor door trims and Safari rear door trim. This well presented, low-owner Land Rover has been produced with sympathetic upgrades whilst maintaining the utilitarian looks loved by many.
