The BMW 850i was introduced in 1989 as the first model of the new 8 series (designation E31), intended to replace the aging 6 series (E24) while also offering significantly higher technical and equipment levels. It was a two-door luxury GT coupe with a front-engine and rear-wheel drive. The 850i model was equipped with a V12 M70 engine with a displacement of 5. 0 liters, created by combining two six-cylinder M20 units. In its basic version, it offered a power output of 300 horsepower and was available with both a six-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. Technological innovations included electronic throttle control, controlled suspension, and a multi-link rear axle. Production of the 850i lasted until 1994 when the model was renamed to 850Ci and gradually modernized.
