Description
The MG TD was produced between 1950 and 1953. In late 1952, the car was slightly updated and designated “TD2”. Of the 30, 000 cars produced, just 1656 were for the home market of which perhaps half were TD2 models making them quite rare.
This car is an early TD2 specification car, build date 3/ 9/ 51 but for reasons unknown, not registered until December 1952. It’s an original RHD home market car. It has an interesting history and was first owned by a doctor in Norwich who used it for his rounds. In 1997 it was taken off the road and over the next few years comprehensively restored to a very high standard by “Fourways Garage” of Great Yarmouth at a cost then of over £14k. The body and engine were removed and the chassis was stripped and blasted and the car was re-built with a long list of new parts, new floors and a complete re-paint. Subsequently the engine and gearbox were re-built. Invoices show the cost then of the work to be over £14k and there are various other invoices for additional parts and work.
In 2013, it was sold by “MG Mecca” for £22, 500. It still presents in beautiful order today as you can see from the photos and the quality of the restoration work is clear with just the odd imperfection. We have carried out various minor re-commissioning jobs after a period of little use and covered some test miles. It is running and driving extremely well.
The number “ NLD 69” is original to the car and transferable. We have a valuation from a number plate agency of £4k back to the owner. It would be a shame to remove it after seventy-four years but it clearly forms part of the car’s value.
