Lot 203

c. 1959 Citroën 2CV AZ Saloon
Registration no. Not UK registered
Chassis no. AZ BS 28477

Ranking alongside the Volkswagen Beetle, Mini, and Land Rover as one of the classic mass-produced cars of the post-war era, Citroën's quirky 2CV debuted in 1948 and would remain in production for an unprecedented 42 years. Intended to provide basic transport in a period of post-war austerity, the 2CV outlived its humble beginnings, going on to attain cult status as the favoured car of the environmentally-concerned motorist.

Although the original 375cc air-cooled flat-twin engine would grow, eventually, to 602cc, the 2CV's performance remained modest at around 70mph flat-out, not that that concerned the majority of its devotees for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance. By the time production ceased in 1990 around 4 million 2CVs of all types had been made, making it the most successful Citroën ever.

Offered here is an example of the AZ (425cc) version. Finished in light grey with blue seats, the car has been restored, and photographs of it stripped are on file. The car was purchased for the Collection in 1999 and shipped to Japan where it has been on static display/ storage ever since. Recommissioning will be required before further use. Accompanying paperwork consists of an old French registration document (1999) and shipping documents relating to its importation into Japan.

Please note that this vehicle is from outside the UK. Our customs agents, CARS UK, will manage all post sale customs administration. A fee of £350+VAT will be charged on the buyer's invoice to administer both import or export customs movements. If the buyer also chooses to ship with CARS UK, this will be quoted separately.
