The Montesa Cappra 250 GP is a legendary, highly collectible motocross motorcycle introduced in 1968 by the Spanish manufacturer Montesa. It marked a major departure from Montesa’s earlier Impala-derived designs, featuring an aggressive, purpose-built off-road chassis and a distinctively styled fiberglass fuel tank. Because of its striking aesthetic, light weight, and rarity, it remains a crown jewel for vintage motocross enthusiasts and motorcycle museums.
Before he became the legendary three-time 500cc World Champion known as "King Kenny," a 19-year-old Kenny Roberts raced a 1969 Montesa Cappra 250 GP (often referred to as the GP-5) to launch his professional career
Though he is universally remembered for his iconic black-and-yellow Yamahas, Roberts' early breakthrough came on a Spanish dirt bike. Modified specifically for dirt track and flat track racing, his Montesa Cappra 250 GP carried him to victory at the high-profile Ascot Park Novice TT in Los Angeles. This major win secured his status as the AMA’s "hottest novice in the nation" and served as the launching pad for his dominant factory-backed career.
