"The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world's fastest and safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable. As with most cars, there are a few body details which could be improved, but we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money." - Autocar.
A progressive development of the sensational XK120 and XK140, the XK150 retained the same basic chassis, 3. 4-litre engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors but benefited from an entirely new body providing increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a one-piece wraparound windscreen. A higher front wing line and broader radiator grille were other obvious differences, but the new model's main talking point was its Dunlop disc brakes; at last the XK had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed.
Introduced in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was available at first only in fixed and drophead coupé forms, the open roadster version not appearing until the following year. At 190bhp, the engine's maximum power output was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed. 'Special Equipment' and 'S' versions came with 210 and 250bhp respectively. Overdrive and automatic transmission were options.
This left-hand drive XK150 3. 4-Litre Fixed Head Coupé, chassis number 'S834063', benefits from documented provenance. According to its Jaguar Heritage Production Trace Certificate - issued in 2014 and confirming matching numbers - the car was originally supplied through Jaguar Cars, New York and first owned by Mr Warren K Weaver. The XK left the Brown's Lane factory finished in Cotswold Blue with dark blue interior trim.
The Jaguar subsequently returned to Europe where it has been owned by the same Belgian collector since 2018. Its history is supported by the Jaguar documentation, providing confirmation of its original factory specification and delivery details. This example features tasteful cosmetic modifications, further refining the model's beauty.
The Jaguar XK150 represents the final and most sophisticated evolution of Jaguar's celebrated XK sports car, combining the marque's renowned 3. 4-litre twin-cam straight-six with elegant styling, improved comfort and impressive performance, making it equally appealing as a collector's car or for enjoyable Grand Touring.
