Purchased in 2022 by the vendor for his collection of Jaguars, from former marque specialist CMC for £32, 000
Nicely presented example, finished in its factory colour scheme of Signal Red with Magnolia hide
Supplied with a large history file, including two stamped service books displaying 26 stamps
Introduced at the 1988 Geneva Motor Show, the long-awaited full convertible version of Jaguar’s XJ-S featured a reinforced floorpan, frameless doors and sophisticated electric hood. Underpinned by the same all-round independent coil-sprung suspension and power-assisted rack and pinion steering as its siblings, the soft-top came with anti-lock brakes as standard. With the HE V12 engine installed a top speed of 150mph with 0-60mph in under eight seconds was attainable. Arguably better looking than the Coupé that spawned it, the Jaguar XJ-S Convertible proved a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. A highly capable grand tourer, it still impresses today as a stylish and luxurious mile muncher.
We are always pleased to handle an XJ-S, but especially so when it’s as good as this one, an extremely well-documented and low-mileage example. Finished in the highly attractive colour combination of Signal Red with a Magnolia interior, it was originally sold through Stratstone Jaguar in Cardiff and was in a recent period of long-term ownership, from 1996 to 2015.
This XJ-S entered its first private collection in 2017, and then was sold to our vendor, himself an enthusiastic Jaguar collector, in 2022. He saw it for sale with the well-known Jaguar specialist CMC in Bridgnorth and “fell in love” with the condition, and was very pleased to secure it for £32, 000. He has since carried out his own slight alterations and improvements, which included fitting aftermarket wire wheels and tyres at a cost of £4, 200, as well as new brake pads, discs and callipers.
The service history is really outstanding, comprising 26 stamps and beginning at 1, 464 miles in 1989. The first five services up to 1994 were completed by Mylechreests Jaguar and Mann Egerton Jaguar, and subsequent services up to the 21st in 2010 were performed across various garages. The 22nd service in 2016 was by the specialist Just XJ-S, and then three services between 2017 and 2022 were done by CMC. The most recent service, in 2024 at 36, 897 miles, was performed by Allcarz in Oswestry.
Now with a mileage of just under 38, 000 and a no-advisories MOT valid until April, 2027, the Jaguar is sold with a large history file including the V5C, a JDHT certificate, sales literature, old tax discs, MOTs dating back to the 1990s, ownership history and many invoices. Additional equipment includes the full book pack with two service books, plus the original steering wheel.
