Description
The XJ-S was launched in September 1975. The XJ-S represented a step forward for Jaguar as the company’s first model in the International Grand Touring class, competing with the finest cars on offer from German and Italian manufacturers, yet at £8, 900 offering traditional Jaguar value for money.
The new model was built on a shortened floorpan from the XJ saloon range, and the suspension and other chassis parts were also similar. It therefore had the same unique combination of refinement, comfort and handling as other Jaguars, developed by chief engineer Bob Knight. The engine was the, by now, well-proven 5. 3 litre V12, which developed 285 bhp and gave the car a top speed of 142 mph (229 km/ h). A small number of cars were built with a manual gearbox, but most XJ-S V12 cars had automatic transmission.
The car for sale here is a 1988 V12 HE Convertible finished in Glacier White with Saville Grey leather interior. Originally supplied by Jaguar dealer Southern Brothers of Blackburn in Lancashire to an Engineering company based in nearby Chorley. The service book shows the car was looked after predominantly by Jaguar agents until 1999. In 2003 the car had covered 34, 282 miles when it was serviced by a Jaguar specialist in Epping. The car was owned by the same gentleman from 2001 until 2024, with the car being in storage from 2003. It was put back on the road in 2024 and has covered just a few hundred miles since.
Presented in excellent order, the car has just been fully prepared for sale by Jaguar Classic, and will be sold with 12 month’s warranty and roadside assistance.
