Description

1971 VINCENT EGLI 1000CC BUILT BY ROGER SLATER WITH ERIC CHENEY FRAME AND VINCENT ENGINE FROM A BLACK KNIGHT (1954-58)Frame number: RS/ C/ 125Engine number: RS/ 2F10AB/ 2/ 10056Built by Roger Slater with an Eric Cheney frame and Vincent Black Knight engine.Reputed to have been exhibited at the Olympia Show in 1970 or 1971.A fascinating and highly individual interpretation of the legendary Vincent V-twin, this Egli-Vincent was built by Roger Slater in 1971, combining a 998cc Vincent engine with an Eric Cheney frame constructed from Reynolds 531 tubing, brazed and nickel-plated.The engine originates from a Vincent Black Knight, produced between 1954 and 1958, and benefits from a number of performance modifications, including twin front cylinder heads, a 9:1 compression ratio and Mk II cams. Induction is by Amal Concentric carburettors, with ignition provided by a Scintilla competition magneto. The specification is further enhanced by a Norton-pattern clutch and gearbox, Campagnolo forks, Grimeca hubs and brakes, and Borrani wheel rims. With a reported dry weight of just 385lb, the combination promises the formidable performance for which these special-built Vincent machines are renowned.Reputed to have been Roger Slater’s Olympia Show bike, either in 1970 or 1971, this machine subsequently evolved from its original touring specification into a more purposeful café racer. Its later development is understood to have involved John Simper and a subsequent owner, who sprinted and paraded the motorcycle, describing its performance as 'stunning'.Recorded frame number RS/ C/ 125 and engine number RS/ 2 F10AB/ 2/ 10656, this is a distinctive example of the British special-building tradition, bringing together Vincent’s celebrated engine, Eric Cheney’s frame-building expertise and Roger Slater’s vision.Offered with an estimate of £22, 000–£26, 000, this is an intriguing opportunity for the Vincent enthusiast or collector of competition-inspired British motorcycles.Supplied with current V5, original buff logbook, some service history, old sales invoices and letters from previous keepers. This vehicle is reported as starting and running but will require a modest amount of recommissioning to bring back into daily use. This vehicle is located near Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire EN8 from where it will need to be collected.
