** Citroen ** Maserati**
A one-off born from the collaboration, at the end of the 1960s, between two storied marques: Citroën and Maserati. This became possible when, in 1968, Citroën acquired a controlling stake in Maserati from the Orsi family. The initial goal was to create a prestigious flagship (project “S”) that would surpass the power limits of Citroën’s engines of the era.
** The engineers fitted the potent 2. 7-litre Maserati V6, producing around 170 hp, into an imposing coupé brimming with the technology Citroën proudly championed in those years. Indeed, it features self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension, DIRAVI *** power steering with automatic return to centre and progressive stiffening, plus cornering headlights: the two innermost lamps are linked to the steering and physically rotate to light the inside of the bend. What’s more, the headlights are also self-levelling.**
Despite the powerful Maserati V6, ** Citroën stayed true to its engineering philosophy (already seen on the DS), mounting the engine longitudinally but set well back towards the cabin, *** with the gearbox overhanging ahead of the front axle. This ‘mid-front engine’ layout delivered excellent weight distribution and exceptional stability for its era.**
The name “**” probably derives from Sa Majesté (His/ Her Majesty) or Sporte Maserati. ** The teardrop-shaped bodywork was developed in the wind tunnel, achieving a Cd of 0. 33 – an incredible figure for 1970 – which allowed it to nearly reach 230 km/ h *** despite its “mere” 170 hp.**

** The hydropneumatic system has been completely overhauled to as-new condition and works perfectly, as do the interior trim: the leather is immaculate and the distinctive seats are exceptional in comfort and style.**
Mechanically, even more has been done: ** a brand-new Maserati V6, still in its protective crate, has been purchased and installed in the car.**
Exceptional condition, unaltered style and rarity: with around 12, 000 built between 1970 and 1975, it is estimated that only half have survived to the present day, and almost none in the condition of this example.
