Description
When the Range Rover arrived in 1970, nothing else combined real off-road ability with the comfort of a fine road car. It created a whole new kind of vehicle, and for its first decade it was sold only as a two-door. Today the two-door Classic is the one collectors look for: cleaner, rarer, and closest to the original idea.
The shape came from Rover’s design chief David Bache, working with engineer Spen King. Bache kept the lines simple and upright, with a floating roof, a clamshell bonnet and that split tailgate. Under it sat Rover’s all-aluminium 3. 5-litre V8, permanent four-wheel drive and long-travel coil springs, a layout that was years ahead of anything else on sale.
This 1983 left-hand-drive example has been fully restored by Overfinch, the most respected name in Range Rover specialists, through their Works division. The Works approach is a complete nut-and-bolt rebuild back to original specification. It was supplied new by Overfinch London in January 2024, finished in Tuscan Blue over Herringbone Tan cloth, with the original 3. 5 V8 and manual gearbox. Overfinch also fitted 16-inch Nevada wheels in matching Tuscan Blue, Works badging and air conditioning, a rare and genuinely useful addition on a car of this age. Since restoration it has covered just 829 miles, and it has been protected with full paint protection film in Dubai. All Overfinch invoices come with the car.
Overfinch has no comparable Works two-door in stock today, and a new commission means sourcing a donor and a full restoration that can take the best part of a year. This car is ready now, already in Dubai, and presented as close to new as an early Range Rover can be.
Now available at Tomini Classics, Dubai.
