Description
This is a very rare survivor being in rot-free condition and completely original. The first owner who had it for many years down in Cornwall, was an agricultural engineer. He used to visit farms to service the tractors with the back of the pickup full of old oil and diesel slopping about... hence it has remained so good.
The pickup has had 3 previous owners in total, and has covered 88570 miles... just run in! It starts instantly, and ticks over quite smoothly (for the diesel that it is). I took this pickup on several 200 – 400 mile journeys and it really is a lot of fun to drive.... and does about 40mpg. It has the 5 speed gearbox.
The pickup comes with 4 tops for the back end.... the Ivor Williams aluminium top, the large brown canvas French 'Camionette' cover with frame (which looks great but limits the speed to about 50mph!), a black tonneau cover and a white fibreglass 'Truckman Top' type of cover. The last cover is in poor condition, and really doesn't suit the style of the Peugeot... but it's in the price if you want it.
It also comes with a huge supply of spare parts, including a low mileage engine and gearbox (with service book!), engine ancillaries, a pair of really good spare front wings, a pair of side panels, door drop glass, door mirrors, headlamps (the super rare round French 'Eurocod Ducellier' as fitted to the truck), spare wheels, rear lights, front sidelights, hubcaps, carpet, new brake pads, fuel caps, radiator and overflow, mudflaps ....... and a lot of other bits and pieces besides. The original handbook and a workshop manual is also present, as is the original grill blind for winter. In all, this lot will fill the pickup.
The car is not currently on the road, and needs a small amount of work to make roadworthy. I had the car serviced in 2010, and it failed the MOT on a few mechanical bits and pieces. These were:
Corroded studs that secure the back axle to the rear springs (rather than the normal 'U' bolts, Peugeot use studs.... I have new replacements for the car)
Lower suspension ball joints.
Brake hoses.
A small amount of corrosion in one rear spring mounting area, which needs attention.
The pickup has been stored in a dry barn for the past year.
This has always been a working pickup, for over 25 years, but it has only ever done light work and has obviously been well looked after. It has a couple of small bits of rust on the bodywork.... one on the offside front wing, and another on the rear nearside. The bed has had a couple of patches welded on, which are a bit agricultural but very strong.
The interior is clean and smart, but a patch has been let into the corner on the driver's side of the seat, and really, it needs to be re-covered to look really good. When I first bought the car, I pulled the seat and carpet out to give it a good clean, and found that the floorpan was completely rust free and in it's original orange paintwork. It has never had any water in , and remains completely dry.
Under the bonnet it is also clean, and there are no leaks from the engine / cooling system / gearbox.
With a small amount of work and a small amount of cash spent, this pickup can be put back to work, or maybe just used as a fun car to attend shows etc. One thing's for sure, there are very few like this one left in such an original and un-restored condition.
I'm looking for offers around £1500 for this pickup with all the spare parts.... more that enough to keep it going for another 25 years!
