Description
This 1971 d super (id 20) was bought by my brother in a lot of two ds’s (the other one being a rare prefecture model) these two cars had been salted away for many years by a former citroen mechanic, who intended to restore them in his retirement. Unfortunately he died before…
first the good points:
·low mileage (60000 kilometres)
·runs very well, and the engine is very quiet (low mileage…)
·the interior is good, with very good carpets.
·it has the manual steering rack (very rare) and four speed manual gearbox, so the hydraulics are the simplest of any d series model. Simple is good!
·the car was very sound, and even though it has deteriorated a bit in storage, it remains a very good restoration project. The boot lid, rear wings, boot floor, inner rear wings, the a, b and c pillars are all sound, as well as the windscreen and roof surrounds.
·it has a complete new exhaust (including the down pipe)
·it has its carte grise (french log book) and only has two recorded owners.
·it has been fitted with a full set of pallas mouldings, and pallas c-pillar and chrome boot hinges.
·the carpets are excellent.
now the bad points:
·the under floor needs localised repairs to the front right, and under the rear anti-roll bar. So do all four doors and both front wings. Nothing too difficult, look at the photos.
·there is a radiator leak, which has corroded a front calliper.
·the water pump has play and will need replacing.
·both “cafetieres” (the rear suspension cylinder boots) need replacing.
all in all, a good ds at a very realistic price, finding a sound one nowadays is not easy at all!!! i have more detailed pictures, ask and i'll e-mail them.
the car is located in normandy, 45 minutes from the ouistreham / caen ferry port. Uk delivery can be arranged at cost.
