The Ram Cobra was developed in the early 1980’s by Adrian Cocking, of LR Roadsters with a full tubular space frame chassis, designed by Formula 1 Designer Adrian Reynard. In 1985 Autocar Magazine carried out a full track test at Brands Hatch pitching the Ram against the BRA 427, a Gravetti, a Python and a Dax. The then current Saloon Car Champion Andy Rouse drove all cars back to back. His conclusion was the Ram was ‘head and shoulders’ above the opposition in terms of handling and road holding.
In Europe a French company ran a One Make Race Series with over 30 Ram Cobras lining up on the grid often driven by ex Formula 1 drivers. The Ram is still being further developed today by Cheng Lim of Thunder Road Cars who are considered by many to renovate and race the quickest and best handling bespoke Cobras available in Europe. Rams were the only worldwide recreation Cobra at the time to be granted personal approval by Carroll Shelby. Because of their ability, rarity and heritage, Ram’s have become very sought after and collectable Cobra Replicas.
This stunning Ram was built professionally to a very high standard. It is registered as a Ram Cobra and on a 1968 reg so it looks correct and it's Tax exempt.
Built with a Cleveland 351 ford block engine and a four speed toploader gearbox. I spoke to Carol Shelby at the time and this was his favourite ford engine, who was endorsing the LR Roadsters RAM Cobra. He said the 351c had plenty of power and lighter weight than the 427s and it was what he recomended.
It has been upgraded with rebuilt suspension including a set of anti roll bars from Thunder Road cars. (as per Cheng's race car) and LSD these mods transforms the handling which was good in the first place. Upgraded custom built radiator in aluminium with 30% increased vol. air bleed for the system and twin electric fans. Custom 316 stainless exhausts 4-2-1 by Premier Design who do the F1 exhausts lovely sound.
The car comes with a number of spares including Aluminium high capacity water pump, spare Holley 750 set up for the track.
This is a very desirable authentic looking Cobra fast but drivable.
I have owned it since 2004 but now do not use it so sadly I have to move her on. Currently SORN but will sell with new MOT.
