This stunning Hawk 289 is now offered for sale by the current owner who has owned this much sought after car since build completion in 1998. It enjoys Historic Vehicle Tax status with age related 1971 No. Plate JTB 992K and correctly registered as a Hawk 289. It was completed prior to the introduction of SVA so no compromises had to be made during construction to ensure that it closely follows the original. Mileage reading is 18, 352 with the total mileage being approx. 24, 500. The speedometer was replaced at approx. 6000 miles. A fully documented MOT history is available to confirm this. The car is finished in Ford Pacifica Blue with Black interior and has appeared in many magazine features including Classic & Sports Cars, Classic Cars and Kit Car. It has taken part in many club and historic events including The Circuit Ardennes and Bexhill 100 where in was a Concours winner. At an AC Cars promotional event at Brooklands it was famously mistaken by their Sales Manager as an original 289 and presented to the press as such. It has also been used by the owner on many tours throughout Europe. As well as being an extremely comfortable and pleasurable car to drive it has proved to be very fast and able on Track Day and Hill Climb events, with appearances at Goodwood, Brands Hatch, Castle Combe, Silverstone, Zolder and Prescott Hill Climb.
Specification
Chassis. Twin tube as original to design by Hawk Cars Chassis No. STSL 97082
Engine. Rover 3. 5 V8 fully rebuilt to Stage 2 by Rovercraft of Maidstone acknowledged experts on Rover engines. It is fitted with Webber 4 pot carburettor and large Hawk radiator. Despite being driven in high air temperatures it has never suffered from overheating.
Gearbox. Standard 5 Speed SD1 fully rebuilt and fitted with short remote to position gearstick correctly.
Rear Axle. Standard MGB but fitted with fully rebuilt MGC differential.
Suspension Front Hawk fully adjustable double wishbone with coil over adjustable shocks. Rear leaf springs with adjustable Spax shocks.
Brakes. Front EBC Turbo Grooved and ventilated brakes rotors with EBC “green” pads. Rear standard MGB drum brakes. Tilton brake pedal balance bar fitted.
Wheels and Tyres. Centre lock 15” chromed wire wheels with correct AC logo knock on/ off hubs. Tyres 295/ 70R w rated Pirelli Super Sport. Full size matching spare wheel fitted with matching tyre.
Exterior trim. All exterior trim closely matches the original as used by AC including all lights. Headlights being Lucas PL’s. A single roll bar is fitted to the driver’s side.
Interior. Seats, dashboard and door pockets all finished in fine grain leather. Dashboard layout is as original (exception hazard switch) and fitted with period instruments, Lockable Glove box to left hand side. “Willans” four point safety harness fitted to both driver and passenger seats.
Weather equipment. Includes Mohair hood with fitted rear screen, correct style side screens with sliding windows and a fully fitted tonneau cover.
