The Rolls-Royce Camargue on offer at Classic Park was delivered new in 1977 in the United States and has been in Europe for some years now. A few years ago the car was repainted in its original, beautiful brown metallic color. The Camargue is not restored and still has its original interior and walnut dashboard. There are just 31920 miles (51370 km) on the odometer (meter reading).
Technically the car is in a very good condition. Due the last service, many virtually vital components are replaced such as brake-hoses, V-belts, filters, fluids and tires (white-wall) all around.
The air conditioning is not working, the car drives fantastic.
General:
The Camargue (1975-1986), was the first post-war Rolls-Royce not designed in-house by the British car manufacturer. Paolo Martin of the Italian Pininfarina was responsible for the design of this luxury coupé which, with its angular and sleek lines unlike any Rolls-Royce before, evoked very different responses. Interestingly, the design of the fascia is inspired by the instrument panel of an aeroplane. The bodywork was made at Mulliner Park Ward. The name Camargue refers to a southern French coastal area.
A very limited number (529 pieces) was built and at its launch it was the most expensive production vehicle at the time. For the price of this Rolls-Royce you could buy six of the most expensive Mercedes’ (the 500 SLC) available. It was also the first car ever with a fully automatic air conditioning. Reportedly it took Rolls-Royce eight years to develop this system. In the '80s, a small number of Camargues was executed entirely in white. Not just the interior and the paint were white, but all usually chrome parts with the exception of the grille as well. This obviously costs a pretty penny, but its typical and currently not very popular 80s look make them less expensive than their "standard" counterparts.
The Camargue shared its platform with the Silver Shadow and Corniche but was longer, wider and heavier than the Silver Shadow. The well known 6750cc V8-engine produced 220 hp (161 kW) and delivered a top speed of 119 miles (192 km / h).
