The vehicle was given the name of "Ollie" by his previous owner whom saw the restoration as a labour of love, sadly having to move it on at the conclusion of the build due to downsizing to a property where he couldn't keep the vehicle for a lack of space. The vehicle was supplied to the war department when it was built, on the 2nd November 1951. It was released from the military in March 1963.
Here we have for sale a Land Rover® Series 1 which has been subjected to a stunning 8 year rebuild project. Due to the desire for originality, where possible NOS parts were used at great expense. On the outside, the results are clear to see - no nasty additions to the bodywork, and it is remarkably straight for a vehicle of this age. The period mirrors, bonnet mounted spare, recent canvas and re-galvanised cappings make for a factory-spec look. The only addition of note is indicators, which were added in the rebuild for the safety of the occupants, and have been done discreetly in the correct period lenses next to the side-lights. The vehicle has two wipers, which was an option at the factory when new - perhaps a minor detail to most but not usually seen in vehicles of this age! Original Brass Bonnet catches have been fitted, which really show the levels of detail gone to during the restoration!
On the inside it all looks new, with some lovely touches including the wooden mats (a very expensive addition) and period fire extinguisher. The only non-standard feature is the discreet middle switch to operate the new indicators. A recent set of correct shovel-back seats have been fitted, in addition to a nice set of rear bench seats - which are even colour coded to the same as the front seats. You can really see the attention to detail... even all the gauges work, and as you can see in the rear photo, the small straps to hold the front seats in place are also in place - details which really show the lengths gone to everywhere to ensure authenticity and originality.
Out on the road, this vehicle is an excellent runner, and shows you what a Series One should really drive like! As you'd expect there is an "eat your dinner off the underside" routine going on. This vehicle was old school, enthusiast prepared and it shows. The results are clear to see - the engine is fully detailed too, so it's ready to run in ..... just take a look at that stunning engine bay! The vehicle pulls well, sounds sweet as a nut, and stops and steers superbly. The list of new parts is endless - even original NOS wiring looms have been fitted - have a look at the proper cloth braided wiring by the bulkhead at the back of the engine bay.
