Here for sale we have a handsome and rare, genuine 12 seater station wagon - early enough to be tax exempt! In fact, the chassis number shows that this vehicle is number 323 off the production line..... and perhaps the paperwork is the place to start on this - having had very few owners, rarely, the full vehicle history has survived, and is great historical reading. As supplied when new, there is the original purchase invoice, from 13th December 1972, showing the full list of options requested... it's really interesting as it demonstrates just how little came as standard, and that auxiliary panels etc on the vehicle today are genuine items from the day! The original passport with service history is there, plus sporadic MOTs showing the mileage to be correct. There are also some great letters written over the years, and various other writings of keepers, highlighting servicing, fuel used, all sorts! As you would expect, this comprehensive pack makes great reading.
Currently fitted is the acclaimed 200TDI engine, nicely fitted in recent years - this is a great conversion, giving much better reliability, economy, and performance. We do not know the mileage on the 200 engine, but I'm sure you will be aware that these units are un-burstable.
On the inside, much of the original interior survives, with a full compliment of 12 seats, door cards, roof linered interior (roof light still works on the switch on the dash!) - even the original cranking handle is correctly stowed in the rear. Externally, as can be seen, the vehicle is very well presented, and stands on 750x16 tyres, for a purposeful stance and improved gearing ratios. The paintwork has a nice patination to it, which gives a period look. There is a tow-bar with electrics, period number plates, a raised air intake, original galvanised cappings throughout, bonnet mounted spare, and side steps. There are also a pair of upgraded halogen headlights, giving modern illumination. The safari style roof and alpine lights come as standard. Due to a problem with one of our delivery trucks, this vehicle was actually driven in over 100 miles to us, so we know it to be a faithful servant on the motorway! With the 200TDI unit, the vehicle is far more adept to modern cruising, whilst returning better MPG than period counterparts.
In summary, this is a rare, early, low mileage, low keeper, tax exempt, 200TDI genuine Station Wagon - with a fantastic provenance. Coupled with that, it is nicely presented, and ready to enjoy.
