1973 Ford Escort Mexico registered on the 31 July 1973. Used on tarmac historic stage rallies, dry stored for twenty years. The car is known to the RS and AVO owners club, appearing in the Havoc magazine A letter from the AVO club denotes that it was built in April 1973 and was a custom pack model.
Bodyshell:
§ Genuine type 49 shell with all factory fitted strengthening plates.
§ Front chassis legs gusseted to bulkhead.
§ Factory fitted rear anti tramp bars and brackets.
§ Steel front Mex wings – one NOS.
§ Rear bulkhead has been firewalled.
§ Reinforced roll cage mountings and Harness eye points.
§ 6 Point bolt in roll cage currently not fitted.
§ Square rear suspension turrets with upright dampers.
§ Capri petrol tank with works style filler and splash guard.
§ Aftermarket battery tray fitted in boot along with spare wheel mounting pole.
§ Original battery tray still in place under the bonnet.
§ BFAT chassis number with full chassis plate and AVO body tag.
Engine:
§ Original 1601 GT crossflow.

§ The Pistons have cut aways for the high lift cam

§ 12 row remote oil cooler mounted behind front panel.
§ Twin 40 DCOE weber carbs with twin cable throttle linkage. The carbs are a matched pair.
§ The engine has a large, big wing sump. Unusual for a crossflow.
§ Sumpguard attached to underside of bodyshell.

Steering and Suspension:
§ World Cup Crossmember.
§ Quick steering rack – 2. 5 turns.
§ Front suspension units are bilstein items. Wide variety of springs come with the car – 4 or 5 sets different lengths and rates.
§ Front roller top suspension mounts.
§ Rear turrets and upright dampers.
§ Anti Tramp.
Braking system:
§ Car has a bias pedal box with remote reservoirs.
§ Hydraulic handbrake.
§ Twin, remote AP Lockheed brake servos positioned behind drivers seat.
§ All brake and fuel lines inside the vehicle.
§ Mi16 Front brake callipers with 240 mm solid discs.
§ 9 inch rear brake drums.
§ Goodridge braided brake hoses.
Interior:
§ Original black headlining.
§ 2 Period bucket seats – the makers plaque says ‘Bridgetown Industries’.
§ Correct 130 mph 7k RPM 6 pod dash unit showing 63, 175 miles. Service history to validate mileage.
§ RS steering wheel –not a Capri item. With correct RS centre cap.
§ Original centre console and gearshift surround.
§ Number of scrutineers stickers in and around the car for nostalgia!!
Extras:
§ The car has toughened triplex glass all round.
§ Front screen is laminated – again a triplex item.
§ Both headlights are long range Cibie items – in immaculate condition.

The car is a restoration projectThe main problem areas are corrosion to the door bottoms, front and rear floor pans, nearside rear quarter panel and inner and outer sills. inner wing drip rails, wheel well, A pillar requires repair.
