This pretty little Hillman was last on the road in 2012, it appears complete and original, including the transferable registration number. There is a fair bit of bodywork to sort out, sills, door bottoms, boot lid, the drivers side rear wheel arch all need attention. On the plus side, the interior chrome, chassis, tyres, etc are all in pretty good order.
Mot and tax exempt.
We have now put a battery on and fired it up, its charging and the oil pressure light goes out quickly on start up.
It will move in gear back and forth under its own power, although it splutters a bit (it will need a good service), the car rolls freely and the brakes seem to do something, but again they will need going through.
The water hoses are all badly perished, so it won't hold water at the moment, so obviously it can't be run for too long.
While I had the car on the ramp, I took more pictures of the underside (see our website), all the chassis members and floors appear sound and straight, the main areas of grot are at the bottom of the front door hinge pillars, just behind the front wheels, for someone reasonable with a welder it should be a straightforward job to do.
Both the outer sill panels are grotty, but they are only a single skin "cover sill" (the main strength of the car is in the chassis), so should be a reasonably simple job for a capable fabricator to make repair sections, or they may be available from somewhere.
The car comes with a very nice hardbound factory workshop manual, modern V5C registration document as well as lots of old mot's, historic receipts for work done and several club magazines.
It should be a straightforward project if you like a bit of bodywork, with a resulting unusual and pretty little saloon.
