Description

Porsche 924, 1978, manual. MOT'd restoration project. (MOT May '18).

Around 20 Porsche 924s left on the road from the 70's in the UK, this is one of 3 on the road from 1978.
I believe it to be the only one of these early cars originally yellow from the factory.

Porsche club GB had a 70's one on their stand at the recent NEC Practical Classics restoration show.
They also had one on the main stand at Silverstone Classic.

These early cars differ from 80's versions and are highly collectable. Some differences are;

chrome around the window trims
light plastic mirrors instead of the chunky 80s versions
external fuel cap
batwing steering wheel
gear gaitor and knob
main dials
4 speed box
non-galvanised body apart from floorpan
thicker carpet
manual windows

I have owned the car for nearly a year as my personal car for regular use.

Body is good overall, sills and suspension mounts structurally strong, o/ s front wing has paint bubbles,
lower rear drivers wing under the back bumper has been filled a little, rest of the car is solid.

Wheels are like new, they have been professionally refurbished. Tyres have good tread.

Engine has Autospark electronic ignition, runs very nicely and the gearbox is particularly smooth.
Its great to drive and steers and brakes as it should, performance is good for a 40 year old car.

Interior needs work, the seats aren't great and the dash top is cracked like they all are but its overall
a nice retro place to be! Original shag-pile carpet for example.

I mentioned earlier the rarity of being yellow from the factory, that is its original colour though has been
resprayed since in the same colour.

It is shiny and presentable, the passenger side looks really good, as does the back but the drivers side has the paint bubbles here and there on the front wing, some paint issues on the rear wing.

Project:

The pump has been wired to a switch on the dash - so ignition on, flick the switch, turn engine over.
It works fine but is not ideal. So theres some tinkering to be done.

It has trouble starting at the moment- I replaced the fuel pump and now it only starts occasionally-
but if a little fuel is poured in the intake it starts immediately and then it's fine to start every time.

The dials are incorrect, and erratic, probably earthing.
lights sticky to go up, fan heater good.

Radiator has a bad leak.

So its a project, a trailer will be needed to collect it. I will not let anyone drive it away.

This 924 looks very striking on the road, a real rarity and Porsches don't lose their value
so it's a worthwhile proposition.

You will need a trailer to collect.

I have the v5 and it is registered in my name.

Payment by bank transfer or cash on collection.

Please contact me to discuss the car further.
