Model History: Designed in-house by William Towns, the Aston Martin DBS foreshadowed things to come for the Newport Pagnell-based marque when it was introduced in 1967. While retaining the engine configuration of the DB6, this new grand tourer abandoned the rounder shapes seen on previous Aston Martins in favour of sharper, more modern styling. The new fastback design was six inches wider than the DB6, offering greater interior comfort for four people. Due to internal demand, the company quickly brought the car to market with the tried and tested 4. 0-litre twin-cam in-line six-cylinder engine. The DBS received the new Dion rear axle that Aston Martin had previously rejected on the DB6, few could have guessed at the time that this platform would serve the company well for the next 20 years.
Only 802 were produced with the 6-cylinder engine, 181 with left-hand drive and 71 with the VANTAGE engine and ZF gearbox! History of this Aston Martin DBS Vantage: Our records confirm that Aston Martin delivered this car new in France in April 1969 to its first owner, Monsieur Hilty, in Haute-Savoie. In June 1971, Dr R. R. bought it in Paris and had it serviced by Garage Mirabeau, then an Aston Martin importer. Arrested in June 1997, it remained in the hands of its second owner until 2014, when in December 2014 it reappeared at the Autoworld Museum in Brussels as part of a temporary exhibition celebrating Aston Martin's centenary. Imported by its last owner on 7 December 2020, he entrusted it to us for a complete bodywork overhaul and a major mechanical overhaul after 23 years of dormancy. This is the 7th DBS Vantage delivered new to France! Bodywork: Repainted in Midnight Blue in our workshop in 2021, after replacement of the rocker panels. The bodywork is now very sound and in its original colour. The chrome and stainless steel are in perfect original condition and the car is fitted with Vantage side badges. Upholstery: The original navy blue leather upholstery is in excellent condition with a superb patina. The headlining and carpets are clean, as are the door panels. Engine: The original 4-litre, 6-cylinder engine is in perfect working order with very good oil pressure. A major overhaul was carried out in our workshops, including a complete check of the top and bottom ends of the engine and rebuilding of the carburettors. Gearbox: Original ZF 5-speed gearbox in excellent working order. The transmission is brand new. There is no play and the gears shift perfectly. Running gear: Major work was also carried out in our workshops, including rebuilding the front and rear axles. The whole thing is stable and holds the road very well. The handling is perfect. There's no play or noise, and the suspension is perfect. The suspension is perfect. Brakes: A major overhaul of the brakes was carried out in our workshops in 2022.
