Description
This De Tomaso Mangusta is a rare twin-headlamp version that is particularly sought-after among enthusiasts. First registered in the USA in September 1970, it was imported from the USA in 2014 and sold to its current owner in 2016. Since then in the same hands, the car has been driven moderately but has always remained in running order, with only the clutch having been replaced since purchase. The car is presented in very good overall condition. Its Maroon-coloured bodywork is homogeneous and meticulous, offering a beautiful shine and an appearance faithful to the original. There are no structural defects, and the car has been carefully maintained. The original black interior is also in very good condition, well preserved, with a beautiful patina that recalls the raw charm of this inimitably styled Italian GT. Mechanically, this Mangusta drives like a dream. The original V8 starts without difficulty and produces a superb sound, the gearbox works correctly, and the handling is sound. The running gear does not make any abnormal noises, and the suspension provides good dynamic handling, in keeping with the model's philosophy. An icon of Italian-American design, the Mangusta combines a De Tomaso chassis with a Ford V8 engine, in a sculptural body designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Ghia. Produced in just 401 examples, it embodies a singular and exciting chapter in classic motoring, at the crossroads between Europe and America. A photo file is available on request.
