APPRAISAL REPORT SUPPORTING VALUE to attest to the work carried out and the vehicle’s immaculate condition.

Here is a very nice opportunity to acquire a Mercedes-Benz 230 SL "Pagode" from 1964, in a remarkably presentable condition. This iconic model has undergone a complete restoration conducted with passion and high standards by its owner, assisted by close enthusiasts of the model.

The bodywork has been attended to with care: gaps are good, alignments well done, and the overall presentation is very good. The paint is fresh, well applied and glossy, in an elegant green shade chosen as a replacement for the original burgundy colour. No signs of corrosion detected. The chrome is impeccable, polished and bright, giving real classic charm. The expert notes the quality of workmanship and the absence of any visible deterioration. In short, this 230 SL is presented in near-concours body condition.

Mechanically, the vehicle runs perfectly. It is equipped with a M129 engine from a 250 SL, developing the same 150 hp as the original block. This slight evolution, well known to enthusiasts, respects the spirit of the model while preserving performance.

The vehicle shows no functional anomalies, and its road behaviour is in line with expectations for a SL of this generation. It is a reliable example, restored with care, and ready to hit the road or join a discerning collection.

The Mercedes 230 SL: Elegance on wheels, signed Pagode

There are cars that mark their era, and there are those that transcend it. The Mercedes-Benz 230 SL, launched in 1963 and produced until 1967, certainly belongs to the latter category. Affectionately nicknamed "Pagode" by enthusiasts due to the concave, elegant shape of its fixed roof, it is far more than a simple roadster: it is a moving work of art.

This version is equipped with a 2. 5 L inline-six (M129 block from a 250 SL), delivering 150 hp via mechanical Bosch fuel injection. Smooth and reliable, it offers pleasant performance without ever being abrupt, with a top speed of around 200 km/ h.

Its road manners match its styling: well-balanced chassis, precise steering, disc brakes at the front, etc.; the Pagoda proves reassuring and enjoyable to drive, even by today’s standards.

Design-wise, the detail is all in the finish: taut lines, subtle chrome, understated yet warm interior combining leather and wood. The famous concave roof, designed by Béla Barényi, combines elegance and practicality, strengthening its status as an icon.

The 230 SL is the heir to the romantic 190 SL and the ancestor of the more muscular 250 and 280 SL. But it remains, for many purists, the perfect balance between classic elegance and technical modernity. It is the gentleman driver’s car, the one you take on winding roads in the south of France, hair in the wind and a mechanical watch on the wrist.
