FACEL VEGA FB III 1964 Coupé

Produced only between 1963 and 1964 in 625 examples, of which 192 are cabriolets, the FB III is scarce on the market.
A true French sports car that today has many enthusiasts.
Its inimitable styling is recognisable a mile off.
This example was delivered new on 30 June 1964 to a dealer in Lyon.
She has, apparently, had 4 owners. Quite surprisingly, her first registration was none other than 3 FV 69.
She is listed by the Facel Vega Club and known to marque collectors. She has remained in France and in the Lyon region for many years.
A feature of this car: it is fitted with a Volvo B20 engine, slightly more powerful than original (origin: Volvo P1800 engine of 108 hp). And this has undergone a total rebuild a few months ago (about €20, 000):
- replacement of con-rods, pistons and crankshaft
- cylinder head reconditioning and valve seating
- carburettor overhaul
- clutch overhaul
- replacement of water pump, fuel pump and oil pump
- radiator and starter service
- installation of a stainless steel exhaust system with stainless manifold
- fitting of 4 KONI dampers
- bespoke aluminium fuel tank
- replacement of all four brake calipers
- front suspension overhaul: bushings and pivot pins replaced
For comfort and frequent use of the car, some upgrades were made:
- installation of electronic ignition
- replacing the coil with an alternator
This Volvo B20 engine gives it fabulous torque. The car is pleasant to drive. Gear changes are easy. The overdrive is handy on the motorway.
The bodywork shows wear consistent with age but this lends it character.
The paint was redone years ago (in original colour). Classic car enthusiasts will see a certain charm where others would opt for a full restoration.
It is fitted with four new tyres on brand new 15-inch wire wheels.
A ramp-up inspection revealed that the sills would need repair (chassis and longitudinals not involved)
The interior is in standard wear condition. The seats and door panels are in good condition. The entire dashboard also. Instrumentation is functional.
A very rare car on the market with the advantage of being mechanically in very good shape but which would benefit from some bodywork refurbishment.
