Description

L’Atelier des 1000 is pleased to present for sale this rare Mercedes-Benz 250 CE W114 first series, in a sober and elegant configuration, with its metallic silver paint and its genuine black leather interior. Shown at the end of the 1960s, the Mercedes-Benz 250 CE W114 marks a key milestone in the brand’s history, making the upscale coupé combining reliability, comfort and refinement accessible. Designed by Paul Bracq, it is one of the last models to wear the vertical lights, symbol of the Mercedes of the 1960s, similar to the mythical Pagode W113. Its mechanically injected six-cylinder Bosch engine illustrates the technical know‑how of the era, making this model a classic today highly appreciated by enthusiasts of historic Mercedes. A rare five-seat coupé, it offers real rear comfort for adult passengers, while its generous boot allows the use of a collectible car without any compromise. The specimen we offer was new in France on 05/ 12/ 1969 and stands out with a particularly stable history, with very few owners over its lifetime. It notably belonged for more than three decades (1987 to 2021) to the same owner, a testament to careful maintenance and careful preservation, before being acquired by its last owner four years ago. Our 250 CE has recently benefited from a major global mechanical overhaul, for nearly €25, 000 over the last four years, enabling this exemplar to offer tidy presentation as well as particularly enjoyable driving pleasure. This example is distinguished by a rare configuration for a 250 CE, notably thanks to the following options: • 5-speed manual gearbox • Power steering • Electric sunroof • Genuine black leather upholstery • Orthopaedic seats • Metallic silver paint • Electric windows • Yellow headlights • Radio • Electric antenna The mechanics perform perfectly: the six-cylinder starts easily, with no noise or smoke, and its tuning is fully satisfactory. The injection has been completely renewed: fuel pump, Bosch injection unit, six injectors and the tank have been replaced. The ignition has also been revised, with a new wiring loom, a new distributor cap, and new spark plugs. The radiator and water pump have been replaced, as well as the auxiliary belts. The tappets were adjusted by a specialist during the replacement of the camshaft cover gasket. The gear box shifts and locks its gears correctly. The clutch is new, as is the entire control system. The road handling is comfortable and sound, notably thanks to the replacement of all four shock absorbers, as well as linkages, suspension bushes and various suspension components. The power steering has been revised and the power steering radiator replaced. Regarding braking, a complete restoration has been carried out, including the refurbishment of all four callipers, replacement of the hoses and all four discs. The original pressed-steel wheels retain their chrome wheel trims in good condition and are fitted with Michelin tyres in good usable condition. The bodywork presents very well and the metallic paint offers a nice shine. The chassis is sound and the underbody is free of structural corrosion. The chromes are in good display condition and perfectly gleaming. The genuine leather upholstery is in very good condition and shows a patina to which we are particularly sensitive. The headlining is well preserved and the carpets are new. The dashboard shows no cracks, while the veneers wear a light patina that suits them perfectly. The white Bakelite steering wheel adds a distinctive charm to this cabin typical of the 1960s. The instrumentation is fully functional and the onboard clock is new. A modern neo-retro-styled radio has been installed to enjoy contemporary comfort while preserving an era-appropriate aesthetic. We note the presence of a spare wheel as well as a battery cut-off switch. Given its configuration, overall condition and the quality of its upkeep, this Mercedes-Benz 250 CE W114 is offered at €24, 990. Part exchange and trade-ins possible. Technical inspection: OK. Delivery possible anywhere in Europe. Warranty up to 36 months. French registration in the collection. L’Atelier des 1000 specialises in buying and selling European sporting and classic cars.
