Collectors and investors should keep the following in mind: when it comes to the Shelby Cobra (replica), the conformity of the French registration document with what the vehicle actually is (manufacturer, year, model, engine) is paramount in order to secure your purchase. French legislation (FFVE) is very strict regarding replicas: for a replica to receive a French registration (Collection), it must be over 30 years old (date of manufacture), must no longer be in production, and must be in its original condition. Applying this rule imposed since 2014 by the French government and the FFVE, very, very few replicas are admissible in France. A savvy buyer will therefore question the true legality of Cobras with registration documents dated 1965 or 1966.. 67 (unless this Cobra costs 2 million and is therefore a genuine original Shelby Cobra). Likewise, if a Cobra from a modern replica marque that began production in 1995 or 2000 is for sale with a registration dated 1974, 1982 or 1986... these modern Cobra replicas are to be avoided because their registration documents are fraudulent. Generally, Cobra replicas with a normal registration are to be avoided as in 99% of cases a replica lacks European or French conformity certificates (except for fakes)... and therefore must undergo an Isolated Title Reception (RTI) with the French Mines Service (UTAC & DREAL) ... but these do not issue them. This is why it is almost certain that a Cobra with a normal registration has forged papers. Note that the French government has recently launched an anti-fraud campaign against 'fake' registration documents. Registrations are being cancelled as well as heavy penalties.
