Description
1969 Karmann Ghia Type 34 coupe
Volkswagen Type 34 Karmann Ghia (1972) – Rare, delivered new in the Netherlands and with exceptional styling
For sale: a superb Volkswagen Type 34 Karmann Ghia, delivered new originally in the Netherlands. It is the largest and rarest model in the Karmann Ghia family, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful designs ever produced by Volkswagen.
This Type 34 is in very good condition, with a healthy and clean chassis, and still retains its original interior – an extremely rare detail for this model. It is also equipped with a rare and expensive VDM steering wheel, perfectly in keeping with the era and the spirit of the car.
The car also features oil temperature and pressure gauges, as well as an original Blaupunkt radio, completing the package in a very original spirit with discreet additional instruments.
Before delivery, this Karmann Ghia will receive a full service. This includes replacing fluids, adjusting valve clearances and a complete lubrication, so that it is perfectly ready for the season and for worry-free summer use.
The Type 34 Karmann Ghia is a relatively little-known model, but it can rightly be regarded as Volkswagen’s flagship model of that era. It is also remarkable that Volkswagen marketed two completely different models under the same name “Karmann Ghia”, both in design and technology, which can be confusing but also adds to its charm.
This example was built in 1968 but registered in 1972 in the Netherlands. The exact reason is not known; it could be a demonstrator or exhibition vehicle. This would potentially make it one of the last registered examples of this model. Production ran from 1961 to 1969, with around 42, 000 examples of the Type 34 built.
In summary: a rare, very original and elegant Volkswagen Type 34 Karmann Ghia, with an interesting history and a lovely presence – ready for its next enthusiast.
We can also arrange delivery of the vehicle and assist you with the registration procedures in France.
