Description
The 1930 Royal Enfield Model K was the most imposing and powerful machine in Royal Enfield’s revised A-K range for the 1930 season. Launched as part of a streamlined range that replaced numeric designations with letters, the Model K crowned the catalogue with its robust V-twin side-valve engine of 9. 76 hp, designed for solo use or with a sidecar.
Powered by a 976 cm³ side-valve V-twin (bore and stroke 85. 5 x 85 mm), the Model K offered generous low‑end torque, ideal for long journeys and commercial use. Propulsion was through a three‑speed Sturmey Archer gearbox, while braking relied on 7‑inch front and 8‑inch rear Enfield drum brakes. In terms of performance, the Model K was not built for outright speed, but for reliable power and great endurance on long distances. Its large‑displacement V-twin delivered smooth, progressive pulling power.
For 1930, the frame was redesigned to lower the saddle height by 3. 8 cm (1½ inches), achieving a more comfortable height of 70 cm (27½ inches). The new front fork incorporated dampers, further improving comfort and handling. Transmission by magneto was provided via a closed aluminium chaincase, with adjustable oil flow, a practical refinement guaranteeing durability. The exhaust system was distinctive, with a single fish-tail outlet for the two silencers. The finish was typically black enamel, the tank painted in two shades of Enfield green, reflecting the brand’s traditional style.
This Model K has undergone an older restoration and is in excellent condition, both aesthetically and mechanically. The engine runs smoothly and shows good compression. The gauge reads 6, 598 km, which likely corresponds to the distance travelled since restoration. It should be noted that the fuel tank finish is irregular and a fresh coat of paint or coating would enhance the bike’s aesthetics.
The engine and frame numbers are matching, as evidenced by the original 1932 Danish registration documents provided with the bike. Several other 1930s documents relating to the motorcycle are also included.
Registered with modern Danish (EU) registration papers.
