Description
A Corvette without the typical plastic we usually gripe about – even if it’s just a lunchbox – and a Corvette that didn’t come from the factory with a V8. It all began in 1953 at the New York Motorama Show, where the first Chevrolet Corvette C1 was unveiled to the public. They had no idea… a legend was born.
However, this legendary status took a little time to establish. During the first two years, the Corvette was equipped with a 150 hp inline-six and a two-speed automatic – a “sports car” by name, but not really in performance. Fortunately, the chassis was quickly revised and, less than two years later, it gave way to a proper 4. 3-litre V8.
Ours? Born in 1957 – fitted with a 4. 6-litre V8 with injection. Almost twice the horsepower. Add a manual gearbox and… enough said.
This car comes from a very particular collection: the Bouvrie collection, where it stood alongside four other icons that Jan des Bouvrie regarded as “the most beautiful classics ever built.” The Ferrari Dino, the Jaguar E-Type Series 1 OTS, the Volvo P1800 S and the Porsche 356 Speedster… as well as this Chevrolet Corvette C1.
We wholly share the impeccable taste of this Dutch design legend. A little anecdote: in Jan’s world, everything was white, except his classic cars. They had to be black.
Our “Fuelie” underwent a full restoration a few years ago in the Netherlands, followed recently by a complete mechanical overhaul at Vintech specialists. All invoices are available. She is now ready to deliver many more smiles per litre.
A shiny black muscle car, with a vivid red leather interior and a manual gearbox.
Miracles aren’t really our specialty, but we’re almost certain we can strike a deal.
