Description
L’atelier des 1000 has the pleasure of offering for sale this 1966 Mini Countryman MK1 in a particularly warm specification, pairing its red body colour with a matching interior and the distinctive exterior wood trim.
Few cars can claim to have marked automotive history as much as the Mini. Launched at the end of the 1950s under Sir Alec Issigonis, it revolutionised the market with its innovative architecture—transverse engine, wheels pushed to the corners, and remarkable interior space despite a notably compact footprint.
Introduced in the early 1960s, the Austin Mini Countryman MKI inherits all the Mini’s ingenuity in a practical and endearing estate version, as comfortable in town as in the countryside.
Cousin to the Morris Traveller, with its famous external wood cladding, it quickly became an icon of the English roads.
The wood‑trim estate version stands out for its distinctive presentation and its own identity within the Mini range.
Today, these models continue to attract enthusiasts of small British cars thanks to their mechanical simplicity, their charming character, and the sheer pleasure of driving.
The example we are offering has been in the same ownership for over twenty years and has benefited from regular maintenance and several works aimed at preserving its ease of use.
Mechanical: it is powered by the 850 cc engine which played a major role in the model’s success.
The engine has benefited from several works to improve reliability, including the recent replacement of the water pump and ignition coils.
As well as the replacement of the fuel pump with an electric model and the radiator and coolant hoses being replaced five years ago.
The transmission has, for its part, undergone a full gearbox rebuild in 2025, accompanied by a new clutch.
The running gear has also benefited from works, with the steering rack and ball joints replaced in 2021. The whole retains the lively and precise handling that gave the Mini its reputation.
The bodywork presents well and the whole car shines; it underwent a repaint around twenty years ago. It currently shows a homogeneous patina in keeping with the age of the paint.
The exterior wood trim is well preserved, contributing fully to the charm of the whole.
The cabin is in superb condition and retains the characteristic ambience of Minis from the 60s.
This Austin will appeal to enthusiasts of British cars seeking an authentic, well‑maintained and long‑preserved example, ready to hit the road for many outings.
In view of the configuration and condition of this Mini, we are asking for €16, 990. Part exchange and PX considered.
