Description

Vintage Bonnet, specialists in Sport & Collection vehicles in Lyon, presents this automobile to you—selected with care and accompanied by a detailed overview.

We are pleased to offer this 1960 Triumph TR3A Cabriolet, an iconic roadster from British production, admired for its timeless lines, mechanical simplicity and genuinely enjoyable, authentic driving feel.

This particular example stands out for its especially meticulous presentation and well-balanced specification: an elegant sky-blue paintwork paired with navy-blue upholstery, complemented by its body-colour hard top, in perfect keeping with the spirit of the model. It is also equipped with an overdrive and features a 4-seat layout with a rear bench—rare and very worthwhile on this type of car.

The car comes from California, where it was advertised as a first-owner vehicle, before being imported to France in 2015. It then underwent a complete restoration carried out by a specialised French workshop, following a rigorous process.

The vehicle was first completely dismantled, both inside and out, including all chrome trim, accessories, upholstery and carpets, with full removal of the mechanical components—featuring the front and rear axles—along with separation of the chassis and body shell.

The bodywork was then stripped using a specific process, with blasting, cleaning and zinc treatment, before being returned to bare metal for panel work using shaping/ forming, repairs to the necessary sections and alignment of all doors and shut lines. The preparation included three undercoats and intermediate sanding, followed by a complete repaint, inside and out, in polished lacquer, delivering a finish of excellent quality today.

The interior has been fully rebuilt with full-grain leather trim, including the seats, panels and dashboard, along with carpets edged with leather piping. The hood, tonneau cover and hood cover have also been remade, as has the hard top, all in line with the vehicle’s configuration.

All chrome trim has been refinished by traditional dipping, fully contributing to the car’s overall presentation quality.

The mechanical components have been completely overhauled, including the engine, gearbox and rear axle, with full refurbishment of the running gear as well as the braking system.

The car also benefited from a complete rework of the electrical wiring loom, including all the dashboard instrumentation.

The full reassembly was carried out using new parts where necessary, new stainless-steel fasteners and components that conform to the original specification. The vehicle is fitted with 60-spoke chromed wheels running on Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres.

The quality of this restoration means you can now present this TR3A in an extremely concours-like condition, both aesthetically and mechanically.

The car has also been made more reliable and enhanced, with the installation of an electronic ignition system, an additional fan, a higher-quality dynamo and a servo-assisted brake system, making it more calm and pleasant to use.

It has covered around 10, 000 kilometres since its restoration, as part of particularly careful ownership. Its previous owner was very meticulous and always took the utmost care—making sure, in particular, never to use it in the rain.

Our example is supplied with a complete dossier, including the technical appraisal (expertise), restoration documentation, photographs and invoices.
