Description
You want a proper little English roadster for the summer, but do you get lost in the sheer number of more-or-less good examples on the market? Take a moment to admire this stunning MG B, and you’ll finally have found the rare gem.
This particular car has been fully restored to concours condition and “Europeanised” by Garage Boche in 1999. True, the restoration isn’t brand new—but it’s been executed extremely well, and the car still looks fantastic, with just a light patina that a recent restoration simply can’t replicate.
The specification was especially special, and this English roadster received—without a doubt—the nicest interior you’ll find in any MGB: fully thick, aged Fauve leather throughout, with body-colour piping, superb green carpeting, and a magnificent three-spoke wooden single-lita (steering wheel) that completes this couture-level cabin. The leather hood is in very good condition, and a beautiful leather tonneau cover will be supplied with the car.
The three wipers give away its Californian origins, but a proper job of Europeanisation has been carried out: the side indicators have completely disappeared, the plastic bumpers have been replaced with metal bumpers and a chrome grille, the steel wheels have been swapped for wire wheels, and the speedometer has been converted to read in km/ h by the current owner.
The mechanicals aren’t neglected either: its 1, 800 cc exchange engine runs healthily thanks to twin SU carburettors and an stainless exhaust line with a very pleasing sound. Everything has been made dependable—larger-capacity radiator, improved cooling control, and electronic ignition. Even a long journey becomes a realistic proposition, thanks to a four-speed gearbox with overdrive.
Finally, the exterior in English Green matches the interior: the paintwork is perfectly finished—proper craft, the real deal. A light patina has settled in over the 25 years since the restoration. A few chips have been touched up on the edges of the doors and boot, and a small blister (see photo) has started to reappear along the lower sill on the driver’s side; a small repair will be all that’s needed to make your MGB perfect again.
So this MGB gives you the best of both worlds: the looks and charm of the early cars, combined with the comfort and reliability of the later runs. Contact me today to get behind the wheel and enjoy a very fine MGB for a fraction of what a restoration like this would cost.
Advisor’s note
Factory-built in August 1980, this is one of the very last MGBs produced—the production stopped just two months later.
