Description
Saab Sonett II V4, 1969.
Chassis number 01373.
Red paint, black faux-leather interior. This superb Saab Sonett was delivered new to the United States, then imported to the Netherlands where it was restored.
The Saab Sonett is an ultra-lightweight, aerodynamic sports car, designed by Ragnar Håkansson and penned by Sixten Sason. Its bodywork is made from reinforced fibreglass composite, mounted on a lightweight steel chassis with front-wheel drive.
It was built for the Production (H and F) categories of the American SCCA championship, and several examples have competed in regional SCCA events, earning a remarkable reputation for efficiency thanks to their low weight and excellent traction.
The Sonett, however, has become a niche road car, far removed from the usual American circuits. Produced in just 1, 610 examples, the Saab Sonett II is a rare machine, and this one carries number 1373. It’s powered by the reliable 1, 500 cc Ford V4 engine producing 65 bhp.
A charming detail: the original safety roll bar. This Saab is in very good condition, showing only light signs of use. The cabin is surprisingly spacious, with a standout layout that delivers a driving experience that’s both sporty and comfortable.
You’ll find a period 1969 Blaupunkt Dortmund radio, with two speakers.
