Description
SOLD-SOLD-SOLD.
When did you last see one? The iconic Peugeot 504 pick-up, now rare even in France. Beloved for its bulletproof character and versatility, it proved itself across the globe. Probably the only one in the Netherlands, it's therefore extremely rare and boasts a wonderful history to boot. The current Dutch owner is a wine merchant who purchased the 504 directly from the first owner, vintner Bernard Santé (what an evocative name!) from La Chapelle. Beyond their shared passion for fine wines, their conversation turned to his imminent retirement. It was therefore a matter of bidding farewell to his business and his faithful Peugeot. This is why the wine merchant offered to buy this charming 504.
The exterior naturally shows signs of wear, but it has been well maintained over the years where necessary. The front end and engine bay are remarkably well preserved. The bed does have a few spots that will warrant particular attention down the line. Thanks to various French MOT certificates, we can see that several issues have been addressed. In the Netherlands too, rust has been treated, but this is a working vehicle, so one shouldn't expect "showroom" condition, of course. As it was used primarily within and around the vineyard estate, its mileage is just 81, 550 km! MOT valid until May 2017.
The interior is equally well cared for: the beige leatherette upholstery was renewed in the past and therefore looks absolutely smart. The classic Peugeot steering wheel is far more aesthetically pleasing than the original. All instruments function as they should. For sale by a private seller, viewings by appointment.
The 504 was voted "Car of the Year" in 1969. This "French Mercedes" far outshone its mid-range competitors on technical grounds. The saloon and estate were then Europe's best-selling mid-range cars, whilst the pick-up dominated in Africa and South America.
