For sale: Porsche 911 2. 7 S Targa – 1973 / model year 1974 – Backdate Classic
Original American Porsche 911 2. 7 S Targa, registered in December 1973, model year 1974, showing approximately 190, 000 km.
This series G 911 provides a particularly interesting foundation for a transformation project into Classic specification. Its US Targa origin lends itself perfectly to this configuration and gives it today an appearance very close to the earliest generations of 911.
For the cognoscenti, this is a matching numbers car: engine, chassis and gearbox. Nevertheless, given the modifications made to the bodywork and interior presentation, it cannot today claim the value of an example strictly preserved in its original configuration. A return to its original series G configuration remains nonetheless possible.
Transformation to Classic specification
The transformation was carried out in 2015 by a passionate expert, with work documentation and numerous photographs to support it.
It notably included:
• modification of the wings and bumpers to recapture the aesthetics of the earliest 911s;
• chassis refurbishment and underside protection;
• overhaul of the running gear;
• engine and 915-type gearbox revision;
• complete interior renovation;
• installation of Pepita fabric bucket seats;
• chrome bezels around the instruments;
• Moto-Lita steering wheel.
Purchased by its current owner in December 2019, the car has since undergone numerous reliability and maintenance works.
The running gear was first attended to, followed by the braking system. The engine subsequently benefited from a complete overhaul in 2024.
Originally equipped with fuel injection, the car now features carburettors, electronic ignition and a sports exhaust, giving it a characterful engine and particularly pleasant soundtrack.
The most recent works also include:
• Wheel refurbishment and tyre replacement;
• Replacement of track rod ends and bushes.
• Chassis ride height increased by 3cm
Condition and future works
The car presents an excellent overall appearance today and can be used as is.
With a view to long-term preservation and to achieve a higher level of presentation, the following should nonetheless be considered in due course:
• complete bodywork treatment with respray.
• replacement of seals, particularly the refurbishment of seals specific to the Targa roof which is in perfect condition and locks very well.
Several original parts have been retained and will be supplied with the car, notably:
• the original instrument cluster;
• various interior elements;
• the original seats in poor condition;
• the dual central outlet sports exhaust.
A 911 Targa with pronounced character, benefiting from a coherent and documented transformation, intended above all for an enthusiast seeking the pleasure and aesthetics of a Classic 911 whilst retaining an authentic matching numbers series G foundation.
