Description
ALVIS SPEED 25 'OPEN TOURER' by CROSS AND ELLIS According to Alvis factory records, this car was sold new in April 1937 to an owner residing in Southport, United Kingdom. It was then finished in dark green, with wings in the same colour as the bodywork, a specification it has retained to this day. The car is accompanied by a remarkable history file, including period correspondence, press cuttings and photographs. Having remained within a single family for a long time, it was imported from Scotland to the Netherlands in 1977. Its second owner, a former president of the Dutch Alvis Owners Club, had it restored that same year. In 1999, this Alvis was acquired by its third owner, who then sold it on to the next owner in 2004. In 2001, the car won first prize in its class at the prestigious Concours d'Elegance at Paleis Het Loo. The previous owner looked after it very carefully, using it only sparingly. In 2006 we sold this car to its current owner; it is therefore on his behalf that we are now delighted to offer it for sale again, twenty years later. Over the past 25 years, maintenance has been entrusted to a renowned Dutch Alvis specialist. The invoices in the history file attest to the various works carried out over time, including the cylinder head being rebuilt, the fitting of a new stainless steel exhaust system and regular servicing. The bodywork and interior remain in very good condition and wear a superb patina. This exceptional car, which has retained great authenticity, has a complete history and still has its original engine (“matching numbers”). A recent road test confirmed all the pleasure this car offers: it runs and drives perfectly, while maintaining excellent oil pressure. The car is registered in the Netherlands and comes with a very comprehensive history file. The Alvis Speed 25 is a remarkable and easy-to-drive motor car, thanks to its fully synchromesh gearbox, which makes gear changes very smooth. Its 3. 5-litre six-cylinder engine is powerful, allowing relaxed driving even in modern traffic. An elegant and refined car that never goes unnoticed. Its price is €115, 000, an attractive figure. Only 39 examples of this model were produced, and very few survive today. It is one of the most beautiful motor cars of the 1930s. Equipped with a 3. 5-litre six-cylinder engine, a fully synchromesh gearbox, independent front suspension and servo-assisted pneumatic brakes, the Alvis Speed 25 offers outstanding performance, excellent road holding and strong braking efficiency. Its lowered chassis also allowed for bodywork that was both sporty and elegant. These were all advantages that set Alvis apart from the competition.
