Description
The Mazda MX-5 (MX standing for Mazda eXperience) was officially unveiled at the Chicago Motor Show in February 1989, but it was a month later, at the Geneva Motor Show, that the public was immediately won over. It was intended to be the modern small convertible, adhering to five fundamental principles: lightness, rear-wheel drive, excellent weight distribution (50/ 50), low inertia through corners and, above all, a sensible budget for purchase and upkeep. Its design drew inspiration from the small British roadsters of the 1960s (Triumph Spitfire, MGB, Lotus Elan), focused above all on the pleasure of driving, and it's fair to say that success followed, with more than 430, 000 units produced for the first generation, the NA, making it the best-selling convertible in the world (having dethroned the MGB, fittingly enough). Of course, it has offered different engines and even different names depending on the market (MX-5 in Europe, Miata in the USA and Eunos Roadster in Japan only). Produced until 1998 across two phases, the first generation, the NA, was replaced by the NB to continue the model's continuity. It is still on sale and is now in its fourth generation (ND).
NYC's/ OXOTO is offering this lovely example of the Mazda MX-5 NA, or rather one should say Miata, as it is a car imported from the USA. Delivered new in February 1993, we have a good service history for its mileage via the Car Pass, which records data from January 2001 onwards. The current owner has had it since July 2018 (127, 162 miles) and has decided to sell due to lack of time to enjoy it. It wears its original livery, John Player Special, with black and gold colours, light brown leather interior and a beige soft top. It currently shows just under 129, 000 miles on the odometer. Its powerplant is a 1. 6 litre 4-cylinder producing 115bhp.
The bodywork presents well; we noticed no particular defects, no knocks, no scratches and no signs of corrosion. The soft top is also in excellent condition, as is the hard-top, both inside and out.
The interior is very clean, whether it's the seats, dashboard, door panels, carpets and so on. The steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever are finished in wood, which is very pleasant to the touch.
As for the mechanicals, we have invoices for the servicing (and a wheel alignment report) carried out while the owner was driving it, between 2019 and 2021. It has been driven very little since. A mechanical refresh can be carried out before the sale.
The most recent MOT test dates from May 2021 (128, 492 miles) and lists five minor advisories: headlight alignment, fog light, track rod end, exhaust and a crack in the windscreen.
It will of course be delivered with a valid MOT.
A ramp is available at our premises to show you the underside of the vehicle.
