Description
“Combining the best of both worlds” … That was no doubt the original idea of Rover’s bosses when they decided to collaborate with Honda in the early 1980s. The aim was to create a car blending British charm and elegance with Japanese reliability and seriousness. From this industrial partnership was born the Rover 800 in 1986. Offered first as a four-door and then a five-door saloon, it was replaced in 1992 by a new generation (the R17), which crowned its range with a majestic coupé: the 827. Powered by the 24-valve V6 borrowed from the Honda Legend (renowned for its reliability), this large British coupé set out to offer the very best to its most discerning clientele. The standard equipment list for 1992 is impressive: electric glass sunroof, full-grain Connolly leather with piping, electrically adjustable memory seats with multi-position heating, cruise control, automatic air conditioning, automatic gearbox at no extra cost, abundant burr walnut, airbags, alloy wheels … Nothing was missing at the time, and you would have needed to pay 100, 000 francs more (!) for a Mercedes 320 CE coupé equipped the same way …
But this avalanche of luxury was not enough to secure commercial success for this handsome car. The German competition was too strong, and the British manufacturer sold just 267 examples of the 827 coupé between 1992 and 1996 … It is even said that from 1994 onwards, dealers who still had their launch demonstrator “on the forecourt” were offering discounts of 40% to tempt potential buyers …!
This car, now all but impossible to find, is what we are proposing to you: delivered new to the Roverland dealership in Neuilly-sur-Seine on 20 April 1994, it presents in its original colour, “Tahiti Blue metallic”, with light beige nappa leather accented by contrasting piping. It has all the equipment mentioned above. Having had only three owners in 32 years, we have a fairly complete history for the car. It has covered just 6, 000 km over the last ten years but has always been perfectly stored and maintained. We will carry out an engine oil change, gearbox and fluids service, filter replacement and timing belt replacement. The timing belt has only 6, 000 km on it but is 10 years old.
So this is a genuine opportunity to acquire an extremely rare car, ******** in quality and endowed with a slightly old-fashioned but very real charm, at a very keen price, which we offer you with this magnificent 827 coupé. It won’t come round again …
